PLASTICS EXTRUSION MACHINERY
Imagine what a cross section of stacked PVC pipe might look like. Our design team took that idea and used those stacked circles and arc sections as the primary design theme throughout PEM. This included most finish materials, custom millwork elements, and creative installations of actual sections of PVC—the material PEM designs and manufactures in their facility.
ROUND AND ROUND
The circular theme was carried out in every facet of the design. The most striking feature is a two-story screen wall made of 500+ sections of red PVC pipe that divides the public lobby from the office space beyond. The reception desk is a quarter circle, and carpet tile throughout the office is circular as well. Using salvaged pipe from PEM’s yard, the conference room pendant lights are shrouded sections of pipe, painted and suspended as shades. On the exterior, drum-like planters outside the main entry look like large sections of PVC stood on end and overflowing with greenery. Even the exposed steel structure at the vestibule has circular connection plates.
“It’s been a really great experience working with Hutton, and frankly, I would say you’d be crazy to look anywhere else.”
While the high-level design concept provides an exceptional experience for office staff, comfort for employees in the manufacturing area was also a high priority. The manufacturing area is tempered to stay at 80 degrees or below in summer and 65 or above in the winter using four ground-mounted rooftop units and long-throw distribution.
