Hesston College selected Hutton to renovate its 45-year-old performing arts center, then hired Hutton again to design and build its Yost Center athletic facility, Bonnie Sowers Nursing Center and Bess Mullet softball field. The $6 million expansion and renovation program resulted from Hesston College’s Be Greater Capital Campaign to address facility needs in the nursing and athletic programs.
Hutton demolished a great deal of the existing building, then renovated the black box theater and added soundproof rooms. Hutton facilitated interviews between professors and acoustical engineers to ensure they got exactly what they wanted. “Hutton got to know us particularly well. In the end, they knew our space better than we did,” said Landes.
“Delivering on time was important. The keys were turned back over to us in time to welcome happy students.”

The Yost Center is Hesston College’s location for most indoor athletics. Hutton designed and built an addition to the west campus entrance as well as a weight room, new office space for coaches and administrative staff, a team room and more. The project also included a renovation of the gym and a new softball field.
PREPARING FUTURE NURSES
Nursing is Hesston College’s largest degree program yet the last time the program’s building was renovated was in the 1990s. Hutton updated the Bonnie Sowers Nursing Center with new technology to better prepare nursing students for the careers of the future.
